Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Lineup to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international team after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
